Elite Supply Chain Solutions Turns Mobile Device Recycling into an ITAD Opportunity, Podcast

The Growing Opportunity Behind Enterprise Device Recovery and Circular IT

By Doug Green

“There’s still value in these devices — and there’s still data that has to be protected.”

In this special Technology Reseller News and ITAD Association podcast, Malik Notta and A.J. Jamal of Elite Supply Chain Solutions discuss the growing opportunity around mobile device recycling, data destruction and asset recovery for enterprises, carriers and channel partners.

Elite Supply Chain Solutions works with used and end-of-life mobile devices, including phones that may still have resale value as well as damaged devices that can be repaired, harvested for parts or responsibly recycled.

The company has worked with major wireless carriers on device return, salvage and recovery programs.

Jamal says one of the biggest issues is keeping usable equipment out of landfills.

A phone traded in for a newer model may still have substantial life remaining. Devices in good condition can be resold, while damaged devices may be repaired or broken down for usable components.

That creates both an environmental and financial opportunity.

But data security is equally important.

For enterprises, carriers and individuals, retired mobile devices may still contain sensitive business information, personal data, photos and credentials.

Elite says it performs certified data wiping and can provide documentation showing that the data has been removed.

That capability extends beyond phones.

Notta says the company can also handle laptops, computers, hard drives and older storage media that organizations may have accumulated without a clear disposition strategy.

For MSPs and MSSPs, that creates an additional service opportunity.

Partners already managing customer infrastructure can add IT asset disposition to the relationship, helping customers securely retire devices while recovering remaining value.

That can also differentiate an MSP by solving a problem many customers may not realize they have.

Carriers represent another opportunity.

Jamal says Elite has supported programs where damaged or returned devices were evaluated, securely wiped and either recovered for resale value or broken down for parts.

In some cases, that creates a revenue stream. In others, it provides a compliance and data-security service.

The broader message is that mobile device disposition should not simply mean throwing old equipment away.

For enterprises, MSPs and carriers, a structured ITAD process can protect data, reduce environmental impact and recover value from equipment that might otherwise be overlooked.
